Arithmetic and Applications


Source curriculum: Based on MEP Year 7 (intended for ages 11-12) with additional resources


Summary: Arithmetic and Applications is designed to be an onramp into junior high mathematics, reinforcing and extending elementary math skills. Learners will calculate with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, and negative numbers. They will also use logical, geometric, and statistical reasoning, and solve simple algebraic equations. All these skills will be applied to problem solving.


Prerequisite: Elementary school math with average achievement. For learners working at an advanced level, this class can also replace the final year of elementary math.


Placement note: Learners who have completed all of elementary math with a high level of achievement can take this class to build confidence or go ahead to Junior High General Math.
