Beginning Entomology (K-6th Grade: 9 Weeks)
In this course students will learn more about insects. The course will teach students the correct terminology of insects, insect anatomy, how to identify types of insects, the insect life cycle, and bug collection techniques.
Level: K-6th Grade
Length: This course features 9 units with videos, activities, crafts, projects and more for the beginner entomologist. Some students complete the course in 9 weeks, but some students take up to 9 months. With self paced, the student can move at a low stress pace to complete the course.
Platform: Google Classroom
Curriculum: Teacher created lessons, SciShow video resources, National Geographic Kids
Students will be provided access to a Google Classroom course. The activities include fill in the blank worksheets, science sketches, creating insects out of clay/play doh/or legos, cutting out life cycle stages, and more.
In this course students will learn:
-living vs nonliving aspects
-insect grouping
-insect anatomy
-insect naming systems and how to use an insect guide
-insect life cycle
-collection techniques
-types of collections (box, jar, flat methods)
-insect identification methods
-focus on 3 types of insects (butterflies, beetles, and ants)
Students will also create an insect themed spiral notebook full of insect drawings, 3 part insect anatomy sections, and more.
Students will need to purchase or create an insect collection box, jar, and glass slides. A supply list will be provided upon registration.
