In this course, students will learn inquiry-based research skills to help them better navigate content found on the web, in the news, and on social media platforms. “Media Literacy Education” and “Media Decoding” are fairly new terms in education, but essential extensions for the basic research skills that all students will need in both their academic and personal lives. Topics explored include: methods and tips for better online searching, how to analyze and evaluate online information, how to paraphrase and summarize to avoid plagiarism, and decoding media messages.
